There are shops, and supermarkets nearby our campus. The Wal-Mart (Sam's Club) is close to the Qianwei Campus of Jilin University, which makes it convent to purchase articles for daily use.
Cash is still the major means of payment in China. Credit card has not been popularized; therefore, please be noted that you need to always carry cash with you. The Chinese exchange rate policy is to link up the value of RMB with that of US dollars. The exchange rate is fairly stable, that is, one US dollar can be converted into 6.78RMB. Moreover, only RMB is allowed to use within China.
Up to now, foreign banks are not allowed to provide deposit service in their operation in China; therefore, you must deposit your Chinese and foreign currency in the Chinese banks. When receiving a remittance, you are supposed to transfer it to your account in the Bank of China.
