Communication

Telephone has been popularized in China. It is a simple process to get a phone-line. You can also choose to use public phones if you have IP phone card, which will lower your fees on distant calls greatly. Mobile phones are also very common with easy access. Furthermore, you can easily find public telephone booths along streets, in the airport, or railway station, or other public areas. However, most of such telephones require the usage of IC card not coins, which is different from the practice in other countries.

Internet service has also been quite popular. It is our suggestion that upon your arrival, make a choice of agent for the service as soon as possible, for it can easy your communication with outside. Halls for international students have been connected to the local network of Jilin University, which provides you with a handy way of search information within and outside school and with e-mail service. Internet fees are 40.00RMB per month for those living in the halls. If you live off-campus, you can dial to the Internet with the estimated cost of 30.00 up to 200.00RMB per month but the speed is rather slow.

There is post-office near the campus. The reception desk in each hall can receive incoming mails on behalf of the international students. Besides, you have other options such as FEDEX and EMS services, which are fast with quality but more expensive.
